Where the next point comes from
The top bands are five marks wide; AL5 and AL6 are ten and twenty marks wide. A child on 83 in one subject is two marks from AL2; a child on 66 is one mark from dropping to AL6. The calculator shows how far each subject is from the next band up, which is usually the best place to spend revision time.
PSLE scoring questions
How is the PSLE Score calculated?
Each of the four subjects is graded with an Achievement Level (AL). The PSLE Score is the sum of the four ALs, from 4 (the best possible) to 32 (MOE).
What marks give AL1 to AL8?
AL1: 90 and above. AL2: 85 to 89. AL3: 80 to 84. AL4: 75 to 79. AL5: 65 to 74. AL6: 45 to 64. AL7: 20 to 44. AL8: below 20 (MOE).
How are Foundation subjects scored?
Foundation subjects are graded AL A (75 to 100), B (30 to 74) or C (below 30), which count as Standard AL 6, 7 and 8 for the PSLE Score (MOE).
Does Higher Chinese count towards the PSLE Score?
No. Higher Mother Tongue is graded separately as Distinction (80 to 100), Merit (65 to 79), Pass (50 to 64) or Ungraded (MOE).
